Guadron scores six goals, Troy blanks LH again in rematch

- JAMES LEIGH

PEARCY — Erick Guadron single-handedly ruined Senior Night for Lake Hamilton with a double hat trick — six goals — as Hot Springs romped 11-0 on Bank of the Ozarks Field at Wolf Stadium.

“I’m super proud of his effort,” said Hot Springs head coach Cory Sturdivant. “Him and Josue (Hernandez) really clicked tonight. Our midfield really clicked and played good balls to them.”

A senior striker, Guadron recorded his first hat trick in the first six minutes, his fourth goal coming on a left-footer across the front of the goal to the right corner in the 15th minute.

Hernandez scored in the 19th minute and Eduardo Santillan in the 21st before Guadron scored twice in less than 40 seconds in the 30th. Josue Ibarra assisted on Guadron’s fifth goal and Juan Santillan on the sixth. Hernandez made it 9-0 less than a minute after Guadon’s final goal, Tristan Trejo connecting with 48.7 seconds left in the half.

Coming off a 4-0 road loss to the Trojans, Lake Hamilton head coach Stan Cooper said the Wolves “kinda folded up” in the second half.

“We’ve gotta keep fighting,” he said. “We can’t lay down. Tonight was one of those nights where it didn’t go our way like it did last week.”

Joseph Filipek knocked in Hot Springs’ last goal, in the 47th minute, before the second half was trimmed by

20 minutes under the Arkansas Activities Association sportsmanship rule.

Kenny Robeson saved 13 shots for the Wolves in the first half, and Ian Bishop five in the second. Manny Santillan had four saves in the first half for Hot Springs and Jose Luna two in the second.

Hot Springs finished the night with

36 shots, 29 on goal and conceding one corner; the Wolves had eight shots, six on target with four corners conceeded.

Sturdivant hoped the rematch with Lake Hamilton would “get us ready and firing on all cylinders before we go into the district tournament next week.

“We wanted to be able to finish strong before we went to see Benton on Thursday,” he said. “I’m pretty pleased with the result. The kids took practice to heart the last couple days. When you’re getting good effort and the kids are having fun, you can’t ask for more than that as a coach.”

Hot Springs (16-3, 9-2 in 5A/6A6) travels to Benton tonight and will face Hope or White Hall in the district tournament Wednesday at Hope. Lake Hamilton (4-12, 1-9) hosts De Queen Friday before facing a district opponent Saturday.

• Caitlynn Porter, Nika Rydza and Daya Ibarra picked up two goals each to lead Lake Hamilton’s girls to an

8-0 victory.

Porter scored with 1:21 off the goal and again in the sixth minute. Logan Keener made it 3-0 on a quick shot in the 15th minute, Rydza scoring her first in the 19th before assisting Ibarra in the 21st.

Chary Catracha scored in the 27th minutes, and 61 seconds later, Ibarra added her second goal of the night. Rydza scored the final goal in the 32nd minute off a long shot from the corner of the penalty area.

“I was pleased,” said Lake Hamilton coach Stacey Scott. “We came out strong, came out quick. We always try to give the girls a goal, and they answered that call. They continued to play strong the entire first half.”

Tavia Smith had 11 saves for the Lady Trojans in the first half while Kiara Baker had two in the second. Brianna Tracy-Withers had three saves in the first half while Baylee Barton had one save in the second.

With the game out of hand, Hot Springs coach Chelsie Sturdivant let her players improvise in the second half.

“It was a heck of a fun game,” she said. “Obviously, 8-0, we came to the huddle and talked about it’s not what’s on the scoreboard in two days, two weeks, two years. We’re out here to have fun, make memories and be a good teammate, and that’s what we did the second half. We looked 100 percent better in the second half than we did in the first half, having fun, no pressure. That’s what it’s about.”

Lake Hamilton outshot Hot Springs 28-5, the Lady Wolves with

21 shots on goal and the Lady Trojans with four.

Kathryn Bryan, the only Lake Hamilton senior who is not a regular starter, got her chance to start Tuesday.

“She did a great job,” Scott said. “She played the position well and made adjustments because I even played her in a position she’s not played a whole lot. She made those adjustments and did a great job at it.”

Lake Hamilton (9-6, 7-4) hosts De Queen Friday before district tournament Saturday. Hot Springs (1-15-1,

0-12) travels to Benton tonight and will face White Hall in the district tournament Monday at Hope.
