Georgia takes golf crown at HSCC

Georgia prevailed in a three-team duel for the National Collegiate Club Golf spring championsh­ip Sunday at Hot Springs Country Club.

First-round leaders by one stroke after a 376 on the Park course, the Bulldogs finished with a 382 on the Arlington course. Georgia’s

758, 38 over par, was two strokes better than runner-up Grand Canyon with Florida third at 711.

Florida, with a 375, had the lowest score on the Park course Sunday by three strokes over Oklahoma State, which finished fourth at

771. Georgia had the lowest score on the Arlington course Sunday by nine strokes over Notre Dame.

Missouri’s Dillon Eaton, at 3-under 141, took the individual title despite going nine strokes higher on the Arlington after leading Park scorers Saturday with a 6-under 66. Central Florida’s Daniel Robinson finished second at 1-under 143 with a 73 on the Arlington and a closing 70 second on the Park.

Hot Springs’ Zachary O’Riley, representi­ng Arkansas Tech, finished with a 71, Sunday’s second lowest Park score, and tied for 12th at 149. The Lakeside High graduate made birdies at the par-three seventh, par-five 12th and par-four 16th Sunday.

Austin Rhodes, representi­ng the University of Arkansas, tied for 41st at 155, closing with a 75 on the Arlington.

John Klopfenste­in led Georgia at 1-over 145, teammates Hunter Elliott at 146, Corey Sullivan at 147 and Andrew Kahn at 148.
