HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Akansa Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently awarded Brig. Gen. Tamhra Hutchins-Frye its National Women in American History certificate and medal. This award is given to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of women, both past and present, in American history.

Hutchins-Frye serves with the Arkansas National Guard at Camp Robinson in North

Little Rock. Among her many achievements was to be the first woman promoted to general in the history of the Arkansas National Guard.

Raised in small-town Arkansas, she received her bachelor’s degree from Arkansas

Tech, and taught elementary school before joining the military. Her exemplary service, dedication and determination are an inspiration to all, especially the young women of today.

She serves as a mentor through the Arkansas Girls of Promise organization, which encourages young women to pursue careers requiring high levels of education in science, technology, engineering and math. She also serves on the board of the Heart of Arkansas United Way.

A resident of Hot Springs Village, Hutchins-Frye has orders that will take her to a new position in Washington, D.C. in June, but according to a news release, she promises to return to the Village.
