Lady Trojans down White Hall

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

HOPE — Kiara Baker scored all of Hot Springs’ goals in a 3-1 victory over White Hall at the 5A-South girls soccer tournament here Monday.

“Kiara Baker played lights out all night,” said Hot Springs coach Chelsie Sturdivant. “All of our forwards played well. It was the best passing that we’ve done all season.”

The Trojans (2-16-1) play top seed De Queen at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Baker connected from 10 yards out in the 10th minute and nicked the corner of the net in the 21st for a 2-0 lead, the halftime score. Baker’s third goal, in the 72nd minute, set the final margin.

Hot Springs keeper Tavia Smith “played really well tonight,” said Sturdivant. Hope, she said, “didn’t have many shots … two free kicks that she saved, and there were several corner kicks with shots on goal.”

Sturdivant went with basically the same lineup that finished last week’s road match with Lake Hamilton.

“Kiara was up front instead of in goal, but it was basically that lineup,” said Sturdivant. “Briana Aldez played center defense for us tonight, and she was a key player.”

About playing the De Queen Lady Leopards, “It will be nice to play them at Hope, on a neutral field on turf,” Sturdivant said. “We are really coming together and clicking as a team. If we can move like we were tonight, we can

definitely hold up our end.”

Lady Wolves advance to face Greenwood

PEARCY — Lake Hamilton scored nine runs off 11 hits to advance to the second round of the 6A-West softball tournament Monday with a 9-4 win over El Dorado.

Hailee Quilici was three for three with a triple and two singles with three RBI. Destiny Rayno had a two-run homer and an RBI single.

Charlye Rowland earned the win for the Lady Wolves, Annalee Diehl pitching two innings in relief.

The fourth-seeded Lady Wolves (13-13) travel to top-seeded Greenwood Wednesday for a 5 p.m. game.
