Joseph Mikell Groover, 57, of Magnet Cove.

Born April 15, 1960, in Albany, Ga., died April 29, 2017, in Hot Springs.

Joe was pre-deceased by his father, Robert Franklin Groover; and nephew, Robert Andrew Groover. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Dawn Carter Groover; his sons, Riley (Brooke) Groover and Will Groover; mother, Bertie Jo Groover of Brandon, Fla.; sisters, Nancy (Stan) Fogle, of Brandon, Dotti (Roger) Groover-Skipper, of Tampa, and Amy Groover-Wilbur, also of Brandon, Fla.; his brother, Robert F. Groover Jr., of Phoenix. Dear to his heart was his Arkansas family — Roger Frank Carter (father in law); and in-laws Roger Alan and Tammy Carter. He is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces and nephews in Georgia, Arkansas and Florida.

Joe attended Brandon High School, Brandon, Fla., and graduated from the University of South Florida in 1983 with a degree in sociology. He began his 31-year career with State Farm in Atlanta, Ga. Joe married Dawn Carter July 1, 1989, and the couple settled in Arkansas. While a supporter of the Arkansas Razorbacks, he was a dedicated Georgia Bulldog. As a ‘Dawg’, Joe relished the ribbings of his Razorback family and friends.

Joe and Dawn located to Malvern in 2000, where he opened his State Farm agency. Joe greatly enjoyed being an active member of such a friendly community. His activities included memberships in Malvern Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs, and he supported programs in all the Hot Spring County schools. He also loved grilling hamburgers at the Magnet Cove High School football games.

Joe was a dedicated husband and father who spent time with his family watching Georgia football, fly-fishing and kayaking. Trout in the White and Ouachita Rivers trembled at the sound of his name.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Regency Funeral Home, Malvern. His family invites you to join them in a time of sharing memories, laughing at Joe’s jokes and celebrating the difference he made in our lives.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church 228 Spring Street, Hot Springs.
