A Bonnerdale man and his son were arrested on misdemeanor warrants Tuesday stemming from allegations they assaulted a woman and her 15-year-old grandson following a traffic col- lision in March.

Benton Ned Bass, 60, and his son, Jayson Warren Bass, 31, who both list addresses on Pearcy Road, were each charged with third-degree battery, punishable by up to one year in jail. Benton Bass turned himself in at the Garland County Sheriff’s Department around 1 p.m. Tuesday and Jayson Bass turned himself in around 4:15 p.m.

Both were later released on $1,000 bond and are set to appear May 12 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, on March 30, a 52-year-old woman said she was driving in the 700 block of Pearcy Road to pick up her grandson when the rear of her car was allegedly struck by a car driven by Jayson Bass. She said Benton Bass was following behind his son and stopped after her vehicle was hit.

She said her grandson heard the crash occur from down the road and came running up to her vehicle as she was checking on her young granddaughter. She said her grandson called for one of his male friends to come help.

At that point, she alleges, Jayson Bass exited his vehicle with his phone in one hand and a beer in the other, approached her grandson and got “in his face.” She said he asked her grandson his age and he responded, “15 years old.”

She alleges Jayson Bass asked her grandson, “Do you know who I am?” and then he proceeded to pin the boy, using both hands, up against the car by his neck. She said she attempted to intervene, but alleges that Benton Bass came over and picked her up, gripping her neck and right thigh, and slammed her down on the pavement.

She said the incident was witnessed by her grandson’s friend and his girlfriend.

Her grandson was taken to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs by

LifeNet and treated for scratches and bruising around his neck.

She said she suffered bruising on her neck, a visible hand print on her thigh and swelling on her back. She said her niece took photos of their injuries.
