Hazel Dawn “Atkins” Miller, age 94, of Hot Springs, died May 2, 2017, after a long illness.

She was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Star City, the daughter of the late James B. and Mattie L. Atkins. She was a graduate of Star City High School and Droughins Business College. She attended Southweste­rn Bible Institute in Waxahachie, Texas, and Tulsa University.

Hazel was a member of First Assembly of God in Tulsa, Okla., and was very active in all the churches she attended over the years. She was a Sunday school teacher, member of the Sanctuary Choir, ladies trio, and helped with anything that needed to be done at the church.

Hazel was employed by Western Business Products for 26 years and retired on Dec. 30, 1995, as vice president comptrolle­r.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Odell Miller; parents, James B. and Mattie L Atkins; sister, Betty L. Pearce, of Benton; niece, Phyllis Kassel; and nephew, Tommy Pearce.

Survivors include one brother, Jim Atkins, of Hot Springs; nephew Ray “Skip” Pearce, and wife, Debbie, of Hot Springs; nephew, Alan Atkins, and wife, Janet, of Hot Springs; nephew, Paul Atkins, of San Francisco; great-niece, Nicole Lundmark, of San Francisco; and great-nephew, Tyler Atkins, of Dallas.

There will be no visitation, and a private burial will be held in Star City.

Hazel’s family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at West Shores assisted living, Lake Hamilton Health and Rehabilita­tion and Arkansas Hospice for the excellent care and affection she received.
