Vast possibilities

-

Dear editor:

First, I would like to compliment the efforts the Chamber of Commerce, the city leaders and volunteers who work diligently, at no compensation, in giving of time, effort and money toward the betterment of our community. Having been active with this organization, I know that many volunteers attend meetings and work toward the economic improvements in Hot Springs with positive changes in Hot Springs. To this, I say thank you for your time and support. Your good deeds are appreciated and have greatly benefited this city.

Secondly, I recently had a conversation with a downtown investor and visionary who has worked for years to increase the tourism industry in Hot Springs. He is part of the city merchants’ association, which is responsible for the banners and flowers that beautify our downtown. No tax money was used for these improvements. Tourism is our No. 1 industry with over 2 million visitors to Hot Springs each year. This brings revenue.

He believes that outdoor thermal pools should be built on the Majestic property. He said the one question people ask when they come to Hot Springs is where can they bathe. We have the natural resources, and this would contribute to our tourism industry with saunas, steam rooms, thermal pools, massage therapy and endless possibilities for locals and tourists.

I went online and there are many international places that people travel to partake of the wellness of thermal baths. While this would take a major investment from some corporate entity, the return would be phenomenal for years to come. Revenue would increase our city’s coffers. It would behoove our city leaders to foster such an enterprise like this. Marketing improvements to healthy lifestyles would make Hot Springs world renowned.

This gentleman shared that, if Hot Springs went to two lanes instead of four in the downtown, foot traffic would increase and outdoor dining and bike paths could be added to the ambience of our tourist town. There are other routes to go around Hot Springs besides the downtown route. Imagine more locals visiting the downtown and it becoming an outdoor mecca for healthier and happier life styles. I think his vision has vast possibilities to our community. It would be a win-win for our citizens and the investors for years to come.

Additionally, if you have a talent and wish to help others, volunteer at any number of the fine organizations in Hot Springs. I currently serve at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs. We have raised big bucks to benefit the hospital and its patients. With

280 volunteers, we are currently committed to raising $500,000 to remodel the Maternity Suites. In the past, we have donated

$175,000 toward the Mammogram Mobile Bus that serves communities surrounding Hot Springs, plus $175,000 toward the DaVinci surgery tool. We are a fun and dedicated group. There is a need for volunteers in all areas of the city. Volunteering makes your life and the lives of others brighter each day.

Have a blessed day.
