Applications available for board position

- DAVID SHOWERS

The application period for the District

5 city director position the Hot Springs Board of Directors declared vacant Tuesday opens today at noon.

The board approved a schedule to replace Rick Ramick during a special-called meeting that followed its Tuesday agenda session. The application deadline is May

30 at noon.

Ramick resigned May 3 following the April 21 bomb threat at his real estate office. Protesters had been calling for his resignation since August over concerns about his residency qualification. The appointee will serve the remainder of Ram-

ick’s term, which runs through next year, and will be eligible to run for the 2019-2022 term.

Applications will be submitted for the board to review June 2. A special-called meeting will be convened June 13 to interview applicants and appoint a replacement. City Attorney Brian Albright told the board the timeline tracks closely to the one used to fill the mayoral vacancy.

Pat McCabe was sworn in as mayor April 26 after the board unanimously appointed him to fill the vacancy left by Ruth Carney’s March 10 resignation. He will serve the remainder of her second term, which runs through next year, and will be eligible to run for the 2019-2022 term.

Per state law, directors in a city manager form of government must be registered voters who are 21 or older and who have resided in the city for at least 30 days. The city code mandates that directors be registered to vote in the district they are seeking to represent. District 5 represents south central Hot Springs.

Applicants will be required to file a statement of financial interest, a petition for nomination that includes the signatures of 50 registered voters residing inside the city and a resume.

The board is the city’s supreme legislative and executive body. Its members receive no compensation.
