Robert L. Deist

Robert Louis “Bob” Deist, 78, of Hot Springs, passed away May

5, 2017, while traveling. Every state in the Union, 30 countries and five continents have been visited by Bob. “Travel as far as you can, as often as you can,” was one of Bob’s favorite sayings; it was said almost as often as “Love the Lord with all your heart.” And Bob did. As members of First Baptist Church, a church which is mission-active all over the world, Bob and Paula, his wife of almost 43 years, were doing missions before missions were “cool.” Much of what they accomplished was quiet and behind the scenes. Bob lived Matthew 25. In mission and in service, in generosity and in love, Bob served the “least of these” brothers and sisters of Jesus.

He was, in fact, the very epitome of a servant — any need, anything, anywhere, for anyone. Bob served as a deacon, a word which itself means servant, in First Baptist Church. He set the bar for deacon ministry through his life of selfless service not only to his church, but to anyone in need. A Jack-of-all-trades who liked to get things done with his hands, Bob knew the things which matter most and last forever meant putting those hands together in prayer and letting God’s hands lift him. Bob met every Wednesday night with a small group of men and his pastor to do just that — to pray for each other and the church.

His grandchildren Michael (Christina) Wood, Ashlee Neal, Shayne (Terry) Renner, Cody Almond, Chelsea Almond, Kelsey Stephens and Kinzee Almond will remember learning to drive, to tie their shoes, to swim or to read from their Grandpa, but most importantly, they will remember the care and the time he gave to each one. They will share these memories with their own children, his great-grandchildren — Aubree Shuffield, Grayson Shuffield, Anastasia Renner and Gwendolyn Renner.

Bob’s ministry and memory will be held in the hearts of his daughters, Laura Skipper and Kim (Ron) Almond, as well as, his dear wife, Paula.

Meeting Bob in Heaven will be his sister, Gloria (Gary) Romstead, and his son, Robert Joseph Deist.

A famous theologian once said, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” Even in sickness Bob lived this. Bob the friend, Bob the fixer, Bob the encourager, Bob the Christ-follower, Bob the servant, will be greatly missed.

A memorial service for Bob will be held at his much loved First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. today officiated by Pastor John McCallum with an hour of fellowship before the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Greene, Milton Raabe, Believers Sunday School Class, J.W. Smith, and the deacons of First Baptist Church.

The family asks those attending Bob’s service to wear Arkansas Razorback attire — because Bob loved the Hogs.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 2350 Central Ave., Hot Springs, AR

71901.

Online guestbook and tributes are available at http://www. GrossFuneralHome.com.
