Picnic a huge success

-

Dear editor:

Rick and I am continually warmed by the graciousness of our community. Our businesses and our people continue to support large numbers of worthy causes throughout our community. The Garland County Employee and Family Appreciation Picnic is only one. I hope everyone saw the large ad thanking the annual picnic sponsors in the Sunday, May 7, 2017, edition of The Sentinel-Record. As always, all expenses of the May 6 picnic for employees and families were paid for with nothing but donations.

Once again, I am sending out a big “Thank you” to the Garland County Sheriff’s Department Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge No. 26 for taking the lead as our main Gold Sponsor. In addition to the FOP, Lodge No. 26 and all those listed in the sponsor thank you ad, I would like to acknowledge the hard work of the entire picnic planning committee. If I try to name them, I will certainly leave someone out.

As usual there was active participation from all county departments. We even had county employees who volunteered to help who weren’t officially on the planning committee. I also send our deepest appreciation for the other participants: Sheriff Mike McCormick, who gave rides in the department ATV, Garland County Sheriff’s Department Tactical Response, “Cuffs the Crime Bear,” K-9 officer “Aton” and his partner Deputy Huffman, LifeNet medical evac helicopter crew, Piney Fire Department, RC Flying Club, Gethsemane Outreach and Recovery Point Ministry.

All enjoyed the talent of Robert Stringer and DJ Tim Koller. As always, A.J. Johnson had Cedar Glades Park in tiptop shape. Chris Kolasch, Billy Sawyer and Environmental Services staff cooked up great food, Michelle Hessee coordinated our entertainment, and Candace Munzy and Rebecca Talbert coordinated our activities for both kids and adults.

Those that I’ve left out, please forgive me. I am so impressed with the level of investment in the county organization by not only area businesses, but the employees themselves. Within the small microcosm of the annual picnic, I saw firsthand the workplace values of working together and helping each other. Thanks again to all.

I am humbled and touched by and truly appreciate everyone’s confidence to invite me once again to chair such a fine group of people who are obviously invested in the well-being and appreciation of their co-workers. With gratitude, Denice Davis Bonnerdale
