Single parents can apply for scholarships
Single-parent scholarship applications are now available. The deadline for the fall semester is June 30.
Single-parent scholarships are awarded to low- and moderate-income single parents who are pursuing postsecondary education in preparation for skilled employment. Single Parent Scholarship Funds are administered by affiliate organizations and volunteers throughout Arkansas.
Eligibility criteria and application requirements vary somewhat by affiliate.
The Garland County affiliate, which administers funds for the county, awarded 19 scholarships for the spring semester.

Phillips 66 contributes to U of A colleges
FAYETTEVILLE — A team from Phillips 66 made an annual visit to the University of Arkansas on Friday, April 28, to celebrate another year of collaboration between the energy manufacturing and logistics company and the university, particularly with the Sam M. Walton College of Business and the College of Engineering.
The Phillips 66 team presented the university with a $100,000 check in support of initiatives in the Walton College and College of Engineering, including the Walton Career Development Program, SAP Support Program, Engineering Career Awareness Program and the Engineering Career Center.
The contribution is counted as a part of Campaign Arkansas, the university’s $1 billion capital campaign.
During their visit to campus, members of the Phillips 66 team presented the company’s annual contribution as part of a celebratory lunch with deans of the College of Engineering and Walton College, faculty and 22 students. The team also heard from Rebecca Francis, a recipient of the Phillips 66 Master of Accountancy Scholarship.
Axiom creates Walton College scholarship
FAYETTEVILLE — Acxiom Corp. recently contributed $100,000 to Campaign Arkansas to establish an endowed scholarship for the Office of Global Engagement in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas.
The Jones Family Endowed International Experience Scholarship is named after alumni Jerry and Judy Jones and their children, Grant Jones and the late Barret Jones. The gift was made in memory of Barret, who passed away in 2016, and in honor of the Jones family.
Jerry Jones is the chief ethics and legal officer, executive vice president and assistant secretary of Acxiom in Little Rock. He and his wife are alumni of the university.
The Jones Family Endowed International Experience Scholarship will support underrepresented students in the Walton College who wish to study abroad or pursue an international experience.
Hot Springs alum places in SAU writing contest
MAGNOLIA — Hot Springs World Class High School alum Jacob Seymour recently earned third place in the annual Southern Arkansas University Writing Contest sponsored by the Department of English and Foreign Languages.
Seymour’s entry was titled “Sky Daddy.” He is a freshman English major.
