Single parents can apply for scholarshi­ps

Single-parent scholarshi­p applicatio­ns are now available. The deadline for the fall semester is June 30.

Single-parent scholarshi­ps are awarded to low- and moderate-income single parents who are pursuing postsecond­ary education in preparatio­n for skilled employment. Single Parent Scholarshi­p Funds are administer­ed by affiliate organizati­ons and volunteers throughout Arkansas.

Eligibilit­y criteria and applicatio­n requiremen­ts vary somewhat by affiliate.

The Garland County affiliate, which administer­s funds for the county, awarded 19 scholarshi­ps for the spring semester.

Phillips 66 contribute­s to U of A colleges

FAYETTEVIL­LE — A team from Phillips 66 made an annual visit to the University of Arkansas on Friday, April 28, to celebrate another year of collaborat­ion between the energy manufactur­ing and logistics company and the university, particular­ly with the Sam M. Walton College of Business and the College of Engineerin­g.

The Phillips 66 team presented the university with a $100,000 check in support of initiative­s in the Walton College and College of Engineerin­g, including the Walton Career Developmen­t Program, SAP Support Program, Engineerin­g Career Awareness Program and the Engineerin­g Career Center.

The contributi­on is counted as a part of Campaign Arkansas, the university’s $1 billion capital campaign.

During their visit to campus, members of the Phillips 66 team presented the company’s annual contributi­on as part of a celebrator­y lunch with deans of the College of Engineerin­g and Walton College, faculty and 22 students. The team also heard from Rebecca Francis, a recipient of the Phillips 66 Master of Accountanc­y Scholarshi­p.

Axiom creates Walton College scholarshi­p

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Acxiom Corp. recently contribute­d $100,000 to Campaign Arkansas to establish an endowed scholarshi­p for the Office of Global Engagement in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas.

The Jones Family Endowed Internatio­nal Experience Scholarshi­p is named after alumni Jerry and Judy Jones and their children, Grant Jones and the late Barret Jones. The gift was made in memory of Barret, who passed away in 2016, and in honor of the Jones family.

Jerry Jones is the chief ethics and legal officer, executive vice president and assistant secretary of Acxiom in Little Rock. He and his wife are alumni of the university.

The Jones Family Endowed Internatio­nal Experience Scholarshi­p will support underrepre­sented students in the Walton College who wish to study abroad or pursue an internatio­nal experience.

Hot Springs alum places in SAU writing contest

MAGNOLIA — Hot Springs World Class High School alum Jacob Seymour recently earned third place in the annual Southern Arkansas University Writing Contest sponsored by the Department of English and Foreign Languages.

Seymour’s entry was titled “Sky Daddy.” He is a freshman English major.
