Local man arrested for possession of cocaine after routine traffic stop
A local man was arrested Friday on drug charges after a “white powdery substance” was found in his vehicle following a short foot pursuit with a Garland County sheriff’s deputy.
Willis Anthony Duvall III, 31, who lists a Lorado Loop address, was charged with a felony count of possession of cocaine with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to 30 years in prison, and misdemeanor fleeing, punishable by up to 30 days in jail. He was later released on $10,500 bond, and is set to appear June 5 in Garland County District Court.
According to the affidavit, shortly after 11 p.m., Deputy Mat- thew Cogburn conducted a traffic stop on a Hyundai Sonata in the 800 block of Mountain Pine Road due to reportedly defective equipment.
The license plate on the Sonata came back belonging to a different vehicle. As Cogburn reread the license plate to confirm it was wrong, Duvall allegedly exited the vehicle, allowing it to roll into a ditch as he fled on foot.
Cogburn pursued him on foot to around the 700 block of Mountain Pine Road before apprehending him after a short struggle. Duvall sustained lacerations to his right arm, and an abrasion to his left foot during the pursuit. LifeNet arrived on scene to dress the wound on Duvall’s foot.
Cogburn reportedly found $385 in the front pockets of Duvall’s shorts during a search. While searching Duvall’s vehicle, Cogburn and Cpl. Josh Cannon reportedly located two bags containing a “white powdery substance,” which tested positive for crack cocaine. The first baggie was reportedly found just outside the driver’s door, and the second about 5 feet away from the first bag.
