Justus Fine Art Gallery summer group exhibition series

-

Justus Fine Art Gallery, 827-A Central Ave., will feature a series of group exhibitions over the summer months.

The June exhibit will include work by Kristin DeGeorge, Matthew Hasty, Dolores Justus, Jennifer Libby Fay, Gerri Much, Tony Saladino, and Dan Thornhill.

Summer Series I will open with a reception from 5-9 p.m. June 2 in conjunction with the monthly Gallery Walk in downtown Hot Springs. The exhibit will be on display June 2-30.

DeGeorge combines delicate etched lines with blocks of color and other media in her elegantly designed monoprints. Dividing her time between France and the U.S., DeGeorge brings an inviting spareness to her work.

Hasty’s luminous southern landscapes have garnered the Memphis artist numerous public and private collectors, along with recognition as “Memphis’ premier landscape artist,” according to Delta Magazine. Hasty’s painting, “The Delta II,” combines a meticulous attention to detail and atmosphere in this striking night scene.

Blurring the line between abstraction and representation, Justus’ work offers what is essential, while maintaining a fresh approach to her subject matter.

Painting with dye on fabric, Fay’s work utilizes forms from nature, along with strokes of color, texture, and line to create her intriguing compositions.

Much’s color-rich abstract paintings employ fluid and expressive brushwork to create a sense of movement in her work.

Saladino’s lyrical multilayered abstracts reflect the artist’s mastery of form and movement. His accomplishments have earned the Texas artist inclusion in notable public and private collections, along with features in many respected publications including The New York Times, Southwest Art Magazine, The Artist’s Magazine, and others.

“I think successful art is made by working in a way that is natural for the artist — one that reflects his or her preoccupations, and interests. Working within our time we are challenged to think about all that is around us. We react to outside stimuli, or to our own thoughts by creating images that we hope will affect others. When I get off track, I am reminded by Tolstoi’s words about the objective of art: ‘Art is human activity consisting of this, that one man consciously, by means of certain external signs, hangs on to others’ feelings he has lived through, and that other people are infected by these feelings, and also experience them,’” said Saladino in a news release.

Thornhill brings a playful approach to his multimedia abstract paintings. Uniting various marks, strokes, and forms in his work, Thornhill’s pieces exude an infectious exuberance.

Justus Fine Art Gallery offers a wide range of original art including sculptures, paintings, ceramics, photography, and more by recognized artists. Opening receptions are held in conjunction with the Hot Springs Gallery Walk the first Friday of every month in downtown Hot Springs. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, or by appointment.
