Competition works best

-

Dear editor:

After reading Judy Ladd’s letter of May 21, 2017, I am feeling coerced and intimidated. She continues to maintain that the “billionaire class” are all Republicans. Wrong! Not all Republicans are rich and not all Democrats are poor. She claims that Trump is using the White House to increase his wealth. Wrong! Trump took a pay cut to assume the office of president, and he wasn’t the first one to do so. Bill Clinton may have increased his wealth, but the Kennedys didn’t and the Roosevelts didn’t. We shouldn’t lump all Democrats together in one class and all Republicans together in another class.

“For our government to work,” it demands the participation of all the people. It demands honest and sober discussion of all the issues. It demands disagreement and cooperation and compromise, so that the best results are reached, not just the demands of one political party or one religion.

“We have in the White House” a man who is much like Ronald Reagan when he was there. He has surrounded himself with people who know more about some things than he knows, who will give him good, sound advice, opinions he can depend on to help him make the decisions he will be forced to make.

I think that no one is trying to “take over America.” I have often said that the Southern states that seceded did not want to take over the government of the USA, they wanted to be the CSA, and they wanted to be allowed to run their government their way. I want We, the People, to run the government of the USA, and I just happen to think that the Republican Party will do a better job of that than the Democrat Party. Judy Ladd thinks otherwise, and may God bless her for it. Competition will deliver the best results. M. Wayne Spencer Hot Springs
