She was born in Tillar, Ark., to the late Layfayette and Nora Phelps Hilderbrand.

Virginia started every morning on the phone with her dear friend, Sister Perlene (McWilliams). They would discuss the day and pray. Virginia was powered by prayer, loved reading her Bible, and was a longtime member of both the Jesus Name Pentecostal and the Village Pentecostal Church.

Though she was blessed with three sons, Lester, Carl and Harvey Meny, Virginia was thrilled to finally have a daughter when Lester married Barbara. Virginia loved the company of her family and friends, crocheting gifts for them, and beating them at Scrabble. She will be dearly missed by her sons; daughter-inlaws, Barbara Meny and Pauline Thompson; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and by her very dear friend, Sister Perlene McWilliams.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. today at Gross Funeral Home. A funeral service officiated by Glen Davis will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27, in the chapel of Gross Funeral Home.
