Call to participants, volunteers for Village triathlon, 5K races
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The sixth annual TRIthe-Village Sprint Triathlon and inaugural Balboa Sunset 5K Run will soon take place in Hot Springs Village. Registration is open to take part in either event, and volunteers are needed for the triathlon.
Presented by Lefler Dental, the 5k is set for June 9, beginning at the Balboa Pavilion, 482 Ponce De Leon Drive. Packets can be picked up from 4-7 p.m., with a start time of 7:30 p.m., followed by food and an awards ceremony.
The USAT-sanctioned Sprint Triathlon is scheduled for June 10 at the Balboa Pavilion, and includes a 500-yard swim in Lake Balboa, a 13.5-mile cycle course over rolling terrain, and a
3.2-mile run.
The area will open at 5 a.m. for triathlon packet pickup, with a pre-race meeting at
6:30 a.m. The first wave will begin at 7 a.m.
Award categories will include Overall Male/Female, Masters Male/Female, Grand Masters, Relay Teams, and Physically Challenged.
Races are open to both residents and non-residents of Hot Springs Village. Day passes for non-residents are required for both participants and spectators.
Licensed massage therapists from the Coronado Fitness Center will be volunteering to give sports massages to participating triathlon athletes. This will be a free five-minute massage.
Participants may register as an individual or as a relay team. Relay teams are two or three athletes who work together to complete all three sections of the triathlon. All athletes must have a USAT annual membership or purchase a one-day membership when registering.
Athletes may register online at http://www.dltmultisport.com/events/triathlons/village-2017.html, which will link directly to the DLT website.
Volunteer positions for the triathlon are mainly in the cycling and food portions of the race.
