Muses Project to present ‘Broadway Cabaret’ summer concerts
The Muses Project will present a summer Broadway concert, “Broadway Cabaret: Song & Dance,” at 7 p.m. June 2 at the Woodlands Auditorium in Hot Springs Village and at 6 p.m. June 3 and 3 p.m. June 4 at the Muses Cultural Arts Center, 428 Orange St.
A student night performance will be presented at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Muses Cultural Arts Center. All students, artists and teachers will be admitted for free, but must call to preregister.
The Muses Project’s Professional Performance Troupe will present beloved tunes from 15 familiar Broadway shows, written by musical theater legends such as Rodgers & Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Lerner & Lowe, Steven Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, and Kander & Ebb, in colorful and engaging combinations of solos, duets, ensembles and energetic dance performances, driven by a dynamic live big band sound.
The concert’s opening song, “Be Our Guest,” from the classic “Beauty & the Beast,” is a moment of pure joy, and sets the tone of the show with an impressive display of musical artistry, spectacular dancing, and extraordinary showmanship. Other musical theater favorites will be performed from Broadway productions including “Anything Goes,” “Kiss Me Kate,” “My Fair Lady,” “Secret Garden,” “Chicago,” “Westside Story” and “Rent.”
The audience will also see a preview of showstopping performances, complete with cancan girls, from the Muses’ production of Franz Lehar’s “The Merry Widow,” coming in September.
The Muses troupe of 30 talented professional singers, dancers, instrumentalists, and young artists is headlined by Muses general director, soprano and New Orleans native Deleen Davidson; veteran musical theater performer, mezzo-soprano Jeanne Bennett, of New York and Florida; baritones Stacey Murdock, of Portland, Ore. and Alex Boyd, of New York; and Muses choreographer and principal dancer, Amy Bramlett, of Hot Springs. These professionals regularly perform in concerts, operas, and theatrical productions across the country.
“Broadway Cabaret” is 90 minutes of witty, charming, passionate, entertaining, and inspiring musical theater “magic,” a news release said.
