Mrs. Anne Burke Woodward,

86, a longtime resident of Magnolia, died on Thursday, June 8,

2017, in Hot Springs.

Anne was born in DeAnn (Hempstead County), Ark., on May 3, 1931, to Jesse Calvin Burke and Annie Lowe Burke. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years, Mr. Walter Ashton Galloway Woodward Jr., two brothers, Rev. Ralph E. Burke and James Hoyt Burke, and two sisters, Arlene Burke Willis and Belva June Burke Glanton.

She is survived by her children, Margaret Woodward Molleston and husband, Jerald G. Molleston Jr., W.A.G. Woodward III and wife, Sandra Woodward, and Angela Woodward Pryor; her granddaugh­ters, Jessica Margaret Molleston and Sydney Davenport; three grandsons, James Alex Woodward, William McEachern Woodward and Walter Ashton Galloway Woodward IV and wife, Linda Woodward; two great-grandchild­ren; her sister, Sue Burke Roe, of Newport Beach, Calif.; her brother, John C. Burke, of Hope; and several nieces and nephews.

During her life, Mrs. Woodward touched the lives of many young students. After graduation from Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University), she was an early elementary school teacher. Following her retirement from the public school system, Anne continued her work with preschool children in a supervisor­y position with the Head Start program in southern Arkansas. Anne also owned and managed the Imperial Antique Mall and Let’s Do Lunch restaurant located on the Square in Magnolia.

For many years, Mrs. Woodward was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Magnolia, where she was a past president of the United Methodist Women. She also served on the advisory board of the Arkansas Historic Preservati­on Committee and was active in historic preservati­on efforts in southern Arkansas.

The family wishes to thank Cliff Brice for his many years of service to Anne and her family, and her caregivers from Home Instead in Hot Springs, Ark.

Following a private interment at the Frazier Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, visitation with the family will be held from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the parlor of the First United Methodist Church of Magnolia, with celebratio­n of life services beginning at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary with the Rev. Pam Estes officiatin­g.
