Rotarian discusses Run For The Wall

-

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Rotary Club of North Garland County/Scenic 7 recently heard from member Amanda Kennedy, who presented a slideshow about the 2017 Run For The Wall.

This annual motorcycle run has more than 3,000 participants who journey from Ontario, Canada, via three routes that converge on Memorial Day in Washington, D.C.

Once again, Kennedy served as state coordinator for 300 motorcyclists on the midway route as they passed through Arkansas. Her job involved the logistics of arranging for meals, lodging, fuel stops, and coordination with local officials. Refueling must be prearranged at approximately 100 mile intervals. Special fuel teams are able to refuel all 300 bikes in 15 minutes.

Once in D.C., the three RFTW groups converge in the Pentagon parking lot, along with Rolling Thunder, to create a procession of 100,000 motorcycles that solemnly move through Arlington Cemetery.

Run For The Wall is a nonprofit organization with the mission to promote healing among all veterans, to call for an accounting of prisoners of war and those missing in action, to honor the memory of those killed in action from all wars, and to support military personnel all over the world.

Scenic 7 Rotary meets at noon on Thursdays in Charlie’s Pizza Pub, and visitors are always welcome.

Call Membership Chair Jan Saunders at 501-282-2024 for more information.
