Voices Rising plans free concert June 25

-

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The choral group Voices Rising, formerly known as Scherzo, is comprised of select vocalists who come together weekly to learn challenging music from all genres, providing an enjoyable musical experience for audiences of all ages and musical tastes.

Members are in the midst of preparing a summer concert, slated for 3 p.m. June 25 at Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines, 275 Asturias Drive. The public is welcome to attend. Admission is free, and a love offering will be received.

In addition to the whole group numbers, both a women’s ensemble and men’s quintet will perform.

The men, led by Marc Bremer, will sing two numbers a cappella. “It’s not often that the entire men’s section of a group can split off and do a cappella barbershop quality music, but these guys are just that talented,” Bremer said in a news release. The gospel song “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” and the spiritual piece “Ride The Chariot” will be the men’s features of the concert.

Led by Fran Stroud, the ladies will perform the classic 1940s hit “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” and the modern popular song “Hallelujah,” by Leonard Cohen. “Working with the ladies of Voices Rising is one of the most enjoyable musical experiences in my lifetime of doing music,” Stroud said in the release. “This group loves working with one another, and their musical abilities make it fun to create music together.”

Soprano Ruth’e Korelitz and tenor Bremer will contribute solo numbers to the concert. She is an accomplished jazz singer who performs with the Muses Project, and he performs in churches and sang the lead role of Peter in the outdoor musical “The Witness” for 10 years. Both artists are area favorites.

Voices Rising is available for bookings by clubs, churches and organizations in Hot Springs, Benton, Bryant and Hot Springs Village. Contact Janis Bremer at bremerj1978@gmail.com for more information.
