Shakespeare at the Market returns June 30
For the second year, the Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance is bringing Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre to Hot Springs for Shakespeare at the Market at 7 p.m. June 30 at the Hot Springs Farmers & Artisans Market, 121 Orange St.
The performance of William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of The Shrew” was adapted to a family friendly one-hour performance and is directed by Chad Bradford.
The performance is open to the public. The audience will be transported back to the lively and colorful days of old world Italy, where embracing adventure, music, and above all, passion, was a way of life, a news release said. Through a flurry of song and spectacle, the rambunctious and arrogant Petruchio will make it his quest to woo the unimpressed and headstrong Kate the Curst. Inspired by Italian traditions of puppetry and commedia dell’arte, the players bring the audience right into the middle of the action.
Attendees should arrive early to choose a good spot for a lawn chair or blanket. A food truck will be serving food, but guests may bring beverages or snacks. Glass containers are prohibited.
The Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre is Arkansas’ only professional Shakespeare theater company and is based at the College of Fine Arts and Communication at the University of Central Arkansas. Its mission is to enrich the community of Central Arkansas through creating professional productions of William Shakespeare’s works and making them accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds.
The mission of the Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance is to celebrate, advocate and promote the arts and culture of Hot Springs. The organization holds quarterly networking meetings to encourage cooperation and collaboration and produces Arts & The Park, an annual 10-day festival held the first week in May.
