Senior Services director to address VCKD Women

Diane Harry, Senior Services director for CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs, will speak to the Virginia Clinton Kelley Democratic Women’s Club at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the HSU/NPC Education Center, 201 Market St. Social time, with light refreshmen­ts, begins at 5 p.m.

Since 1991, Harry has been responsibl­e for directing and coordinati­ng community-based services for Garland County seniors for Mercy Hospital and now CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs. Services include public policy advocacy, Meals on Wheels and administra­tion of the Hot Springs and McAuley senior centers. A White House Conference on Aging delegate in 2005, Harry has served as past vice chair of the National Institute of Senior Centers, past president and founding member of Senior Programs of Arkansas, and a past member of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging. She received her BS and MA degrees from Eastern Michigan University.

MPGS to hear talk on computer software

The Melting Pot Genealogic­al Society will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Melting Pot Library, 649-B Ouachita Ave. A presentati­on on genealogy software for personal computers will be given by MPGS member Anita Haley Millard. Visitors are welcome.

The presentati­on will focus on the latest release of Family Tree Maker and Roots Magic.

The MPGS maintains a library whose collection­s include more than 9,000 publicatio­ns. The library hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Friday or by appointmen­t, 624-0229. The

library staff is an all-volunteer group of people interested in preserving and making available to the public the histories of families of Garland County and other areas.

Legion has customer appreciati­on luau

Hot Springs American Legion Post 13, 3237 Albert Pike, will celebrate a Hawaiian Luau Customer Appreciati­on time at 6 p.m. today with a luau potluck. All members are asked to bring a dish for themselves and their guests. Karaoke with Stephanie and Larry Martin begins at 7 p.m. The 40/8 Lounge opens at noon daily and closes on Sunday Karaoke nights when all members and guests are gone. Come celebrate the beginning of Arkansas summer with music, singing and dancing. The public is welcome by registerin­g names. There will be door prizes from 8 p.m. on and raffles. Tickets are six for $5.

Emblem Club hosts patriotic party fundraiser

194 will host a Red, White & Blue Party from 6-10 p.m. July

9. Music will be provided by the Jim Cotton Band. Hamburger, hot dogs, chips and dips, and apple pie will be served.
