Mental evaluation ordered for inmate who allegedly attacked two deputies

- STEVEN MROSS

The arraignment of a local woman accused of attacking two deputies earlier this year while she was an inmate at the Garland County Detention Center was postponed Monday until a mental evaluation is completed to determine her fitness to proceed.

Anna Michaela Green, 28, is charged with two felony counts of second-degree battery, punishable by up to six years in prison, for the two alleged attacks that involved separate incidents. All further proceedings in the case have been stayed until the evaluation is complete, with a review set for Sept. 11 in Garland County Circuit Court.

Green, who lists a Mill Creek Road address, has remained in custody since her original arrest April 24, 2017, on a charge of third-degree domestic battery which is set for a hearing on July

20. With the additional battery charges, Green is being held on

$6,000 bond. According to the affidavits, on Feb. 22, shortly after 8:30 p.m., Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Destiny Donahue and Cpl. Douglas Bates, both assigned to the detention center, responded to a call for assistance from Deputy Destiny Aidi because Green was refusing to be locked down in her cell.

Bates reportedly gave multiple verbal commands to Green to lock down her cell, but she continued to refuse. Green allegedly tried to push past the deputies in order to resist going into her cell.

When the deputies tried to restrain her, she reportedly became combative and a struggle ensued.

She allegedly punched Donahue in the face twice. When Donahue attempted to put distance between the two of them, Green grabbed her by the hair with both hands and refused to let go.

Bates and Aidi pulled Green to the floor and she finally released her grip on Donahue’s hair. She was handcuffed and returned to her cell.

On May 6, shortly after 1:30 p.m., Deputies Lisa Thomas and Rhonda King were attempting to remove contraband from

Green’s cell while Green was present. At one point, Green allegedly punched King on the right side of her face, causing bruising and swelling to her right eye and cheekbone and a laceration to her nose.

During the ensuing struggle to get Green under control, Thomas suffered injuries to the knuckles and fingers of her right hand.
