Woman arrested for alleged assault with stolen gun

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

A local woman was arrested early Wednesday on felony assault and theft charges after she allegedly threatened three people with a stolen gun and later lied to Hot Springs police about her identity during a traffic stop.

Latrenna Renne Adams, 37, who lists a Hildreth Street address, was taken into custody shortly after 5:30 a.m. and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of theft by receiving, each punishable by up to six years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of obstructing governmental operations.

Adams, who also had two war- rants for failure to appear, was being held on zero bond and is set to appear July 24 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, police officers responded to a residence on Walnut Street in reference to a disturbance. As they were approaching the residence, Officer Joey Vanderburg made contact with a female, later identified as Adams, driving a dark grey 2003 Ford Expedition.

As the vehicle passed Vanderburg’s unit, it stopped and Adams reportedly pointed up the street and yelled, “That’s him up there! He actin’ a fool! I’m the one that called.” At that point it was unclear who the offender was so Vanderburg continued towards the residence, notifying other units of the vehicle’s type and a partial license plate number.

Upon arrival at the residence, he made contact with one of three victims who stated the woman Vanderburg spoke with had displayed the firearm. Vanderburg, Cpl. Lee Tillman and officer Taylor Gates conducted a traffic stop on the Expedition.

Vanderburg returned to the residence and spoke with two more victims who alleged Adams and her passenger had arrived at the residence and then became “irate” with the first victim. The two witnesses alleged that during the altercation Adams displayed a small handgun and pointed it at all three of them.

The residence is reportedly occupied by Adams’ daughter, who stated she did see her mother lift her shirt, as reported by one of the victims, but never saw a firearm. The passenger in the Expedition reportedly remained on the porch.

During the traffic stop, Adams allegedly lied initially about her identity and gave her passenger’s name. The passenger provided the same information when asked and Adams then said she did not know officers would be asking the passenger to identify herself and admitted her true identity.

A computer check revealed that Adams and her passenger had failure to appear warrants. A search of the vehicle reportedly revealed two firearms in the glove box, a 9mm and a .380. The 9mm was allegedly loaded and had a round in the chamber. Officers ran both firearms and discovered the 9mm had been reported stolen.

Two of the victims were brought to the scene and reportedly identified Adams as the one who had threatened them.
