Maintenance staff to spray, mow areas
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The POA’s recreation maintenance staff will be spraying invasive weeds and poison ivy along the entire trail system of Hot Springs Village over the next several weeks. Caution should be used on trails when workers are present.
In addition, staff will be mowing the Balboa Spillway Trail from the north side of Ponce de Leon Drive to the south side of Ponce de Leon Drive, from Herradura Lane to DeSoto Boulevard, beginning Monday, weather permitting. Drivers are asked to maintain awareness of the workers.
Rhythm Jam set for Sunday
A Rhythm Jam will take place from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the DeSoto Club Event Center, 100 Clubhouse Drive.
Jams are open to musicians of all ages and skill levels who play non-amplified instruments. Attendees should bring their own music and music stands. Listeners are also welcome.
This is a free event.
Computer Club slates workshop
The Computer Club of Hot Springs Village will hold a Help Workshop from 1-3 p.m. Thursday in the Village Church of Christ, 210 Balboa Road. There is no charge, and the workshop is open to anyone who needs help with a computer device.
There will be no general meeting during July.
Classes for the fall session have been verified and will be posted beginning Aug. 1 on the club’s website, http:// www.cchsv.org. Payment will be taken at each class.
Local United Way plans 100th birthday
The 100th anniversary of the United Way of the Ouachitas will be celebrated with a Beach Birthday Bash, taking place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 22, both on the sand and under the Balboa Pavilion, 476 Ponce de Leon Drive.
Attendees can grab a hamburger and enjoy cake with ice cream while listening to great tunes played by the Spa City Youngbloods.
All Hot Springs Village residents and their guests may attend free of charge, thanks to sponsors including Entergy, Relyance Bank, RE/MAX of Hot Springs Village, Prince and Tuohey CPAs, MedExpress, Balboa Yacht Club, and the HSV Property Owners Association.
Arkansas in Civil War subject of program
The Lifelong Learning Institute will present a program about the role Arkansas played in the Civil War during a session at 1 p.m. July 25 in Room 5 of the Coronado Community Center, 150 Ponderosa Lane. The lecture is expected to last around two hours.
Presenting will be Arkansas Historic Preservation Program Community Outreach Director Mark Christ, and Nancy Hendricks, author of “Terrible Swift Sword,” a fictional account of the sinking of Sultana off the shores of the Mississippi River, near Helena.

Chamber announces Partner Up lunch
The Hot Springs Village Area Chamber of Commerce will have its next Partner Up luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. July 26 in the Good Samaritan Society’s Fireside Dining Room, 121 Cortez Road.
This month’s event is being sponsored by Arkansas BlueCross BlueShield.
