HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Ruth Phelan Young, age 90, of Hot Springs Village, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017, in Hot Springs.

She was born on Jan. 23, 1927, in Malvern, to the late Thomas Marion Phelan and Maude Lilly Potts Phelan. Reared and educated in Malvern, she was a homemaker and the widow of the late Clifford Lee Young, to whom she was married on Aug. 15, 1947, in the First Baptist Church of Malvern. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 2010. The Young family moved to St. Louis, Mo., in 1962, where Mr. Young worked many years for the Pet Milk Company. They moved back to Arkansas in 1988 and settled in Hot Springs Village, where they were founding members of Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church. Mrs. Young was a 50-plus-year member of PEO Chapter CR.

She is survived by her children, Janet Hazelbaker, of Fairfax Station, Va., and Robin Young, of Malvern; three grandchild­ren, Lisa Owings, Chrissy Hazelbaker and Michael Hazelbaker; by four great-grandchild­ren, Indy Owings, Delaney Owings, Annabel Ruth Owings and Olivia Ruth Hazelbaker; and by a brother, Neal Phelan, of Donaldson.

Mrs. Young was also preceded in death by five siblings, Hazel McKenzie, Nettie Jackson, Calvin, Harold and Hugh Phelan.

Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Shadowlawn Cemetery, in Malvern, under the direction of J.A. Funk Funeral Home.

A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday at Christ of The Hills United Methodist Church in Hot Springs Village.
