Health care is a right

-

Dear editor:

It amazes me the opposition to the ACA (Affordable Care Act) put forth as “Obamacare” when in fact it is a Republican health care plan designed to fill the coffers of the medical insurance companies. It was specifically written to force everyone to either buy insurance or pay a penalty. It was delayed two years to let the Republicans come up with a strategy that would keep it from becoming too popular when the Democrats insisted that those below a certain income level get assistance from Medicaid to cover their premiums. For the first time, many Americans had the ability to see a doctor.

Now those that didn’t get assistance see what their insurance costs are because the insurance companies insist on making more money off them than they can through Medicaid subsidies. I don’t blame them for being upset. Their complaint is against the wrong people. They should be going after the ones that are allowing the insurance companies to gouge them with increased premiums.

Shutting down the ACA will not help them at all. It will only put them at greater risk of being fleeced if and when they get sick. No one escapes that fact of life; people get sick, either by accident or disease. You can eat all the health foods and drink all the right water and breathe all the clean air you want, but sooner of later each of us get something that will require medical treatment.

If you have insurance, you’re covered if the policy covers what you get or catch or have. And once you are inflicted with a disease or by accident, it then becomes pre-existing and your coverage can be reduced or denied forcing you into the higher deductible and expensive policies of those already stuck in it.

This is what the Republicans are trying to accomplish with the help of those screwed by those forced into paying premiums to pad the bottom lines of insurance companies.

There is no honor amongst thieves and we have the crassest, most egregious bunch running Congress in the history of our country. There is no loyalty to our flag or the people that live here. We are a means of making money and that is all.

Our president and his gang of crooks have sold us out to a foreign entity with no remorse or apology. They will pull every dirty trick to succeed at taking every cent, every dollar, every ounce of blood from anyone that isn’t a part of their inner circle. Health care is the tool to suck people into helping them accomplish it.

Agreeing with those in the Senate right now trying to rewrite the health care policies to give money to the insurance companies while refusing help for those already sick and disabled is criminal and inhumane. Everyone in America should be in the street proclaiming the wrong being inflicted on them by these miscreants.

Health care is a right. It should not be bartered away like a piece of meat. Judy Ladd Hot Springs
