Marketing team brings home 5 Romero awards

Oaklawn’s marketing department received five Romero awards during the closing ceremonies of the Gaming Marketing & Technology Conference July

20 in Las Vegas, bringing its total to 57 awards, which includes honorable mentions, over the last eight years. Oaklawn was competing in the large gaming property category for just the third time as a result of its 2015 expansion, which increased the competitio­n exponentia­lly.

Oaklawn received a Gold Award, two Silver awards and two honorable mentions. The Gold Award was for the VIP Promotion, VIP Oaklawn Campout, while the Floor Promotion Bath Planet Giveaway and Electronic Marketing promotion Meteor Mayhem both earned Silver awards. The honorable mention awards were for the Direct Mail promotion Bubblegum Blowout and Electronic Marketing effort

12 Outlets of Christmas. “Our entire team should be extremely proud of these awards, especially since we are now competing against some of the biggest names in the gaming industry, not only in the United States, but from around the world,” Assistant Director of Marketing Brandon Scott said in the press release. “Each year, we challenge ourselves to do better than the previous year and so far we’ve been able to accomplish that goal.”

Romero awards honor excellence in gaming marketing and are named for gaming marketing pioneer John Romero, who died in 2015. These awards, in the categories of Direct Mail Marketing, E-Mail Marketing, PR Campaign, Website Marketing, VIP Promotion and Gaming Floor Promotion, recognize gaming operators that best fulfill the spirit of Romero’s more than 50year crusade for effective, measurable and accountabl­e gaming marketing expenditur­es. The winners are selected by a panel of expert judges.
