Police ID shooting victims
Hot Springs police on Monday identified two men wounded in the leg Friday afternoon in a shooting on
Pansy Street, but are still trying to identify the shooter, according to a news release.
One victim, identified as Aaron James Thompson, 29, of Hot Springs, remained in serious but stable condition Monday, the release said. The second victim, identified as Bertrand Embrous Keeton, 29, of California, was treated and released Friday, but was then taken into custody on a felony warrant for a parole violation out of California. He remained in custody on zero bond Monday awaiting extradition.
According to the release, at around 3:40 p.m. Friday, police responded to 101 Pansy St. in reference to a shooting and upon arrival officers found Thompson in the front yard of the residence with a gunshot wound to his leg. Officers applied a tourniquet and rendered aid to Thompson until LifeNet arrived and transported him to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs.
Keeton was transported by private vehicle to National Park Medical Center prior to officers’ arrival on Pansy Street, the release said.
According to earlier reports, the shooter was allegedly a black male in a newer model, possibly black, Honda Accord. Hot Springs police blocked off the north two thirds of Pansy Street, which runs north to south between Ash Street and Crescent Avenue, while processing the scene.
Eniz Marshall, who lives on Pansy Street, told The Sentinel-Record Friday he was preparing to burn trash outside at the opposite end of the street when he heard the gunshots. “I didn’t know where they were coming from, so I dashed behind the tree right there,” he said, pointing to a tree next to his trash pile. Marshall said he then took cover in his house.
“Detectives are still following up on leads and ask anyone with information about this incident to contact the Hot Springs Police Department at 501321-6789,” Monday’s release said.
