Donnie R. Jones

-

Donnie Ray Jones, 65, of Hot Springs, passed peacefully at home on Friday, July

28, 2017, with the love of his life by his side.

Donnie was born in Hot Springs, Ark., to Clarence and Hazel Jones on Aug. 21,

1951. He was the youngest boy of seven kids.

He attended Lake Hamilton School until the eleventh grade, when he decided to become a roofer and later started Donnie Jones Roofing Company in 1969. He ran a very successful business based on honest, hard work until he retired in 2010.

He was a family man that did whatever it took to provide for his wife and daughter. He overcame many health problems over the years, but proved time and again just how tough he was. He never met a stranger and had the biggest heart. Donnie was old school and believed in standing behind your work and being honest. They definitely don’t make ‘em like him anymore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sue Zimmerman; and his brother, Thomas Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Jones; his daughter, Samantha (Jerry) Norwood; his grandchildren, T.J. Tiernan, Shelby Tiernan and Brodie Norwood; stepgrandchildren, Austin Norwood, Blake Norwood and Megan (Ky) Kemp; great-grandson, A.J. Tiernan; brother, Billy (Martha) Jones; sisters, Margaret (Phillip) Rodgers, Judy Lingelback, Beverly (Juan) Funes; and many extended family members and friends.

Pallbearers are James Hodges, Clint Lingelback, Le Coats, Donnie Wayne Rodgers, Randy Rodgers and Tony Tiernan.

Honorary pallbearers are Phillips Rodgers, Jerry Godwin, Steve Boston and Dickie Holliday.

A special thank you to his granddaughter, Shelby Tiernan, for helping take care of him the last two years, HealthStar House Calls, Kay Lynn, Bridgett, Michelle and Emily for always showing compassion and kindness while caring for Donnie, and Arkansas Hospice for helping him pass with dignity and comfort in his final days.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday and a celebration of Donnie’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, both in the chapel of Gross Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
