Fresh produce returns Saturday at farmers market
Shoppers can browse a variety of fresh, homegrown produce and homemade items at the Hot Springs Farmers & Artisans Market, 121 Orange St., from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Chris and Ashley Wilson with Wilson Farms offer a selection of more than 30 flavors of jams, jellies and syrups. Ashley Wilson grew up making preserves with her mother and grandmother. Grandma’s Apple Butter is a recipe handed down through generations. The choices vary depending on the seasons, with summer flavors including spring honeysuckle, watermelon jelly, lemonade jelly, mango-pineapple, plum, blueberry, caramel pear and peach.
All jams and jellies are made from produce grown at Wilson Farm or from local farmers using organic sugar. Other products offered by the Wilsons include an oatmeal raisin cookie mix and pancake and waffle mixes in Mason jars and multipurpose tote bags using old feed sacks. They also offer a recycling program for their jars — return 10 empty jars and receive a free 8-ounce jar of jam.
It’s watermelon season, and Harper Farms offers a wide variety of melons, including the Diablo Melon, the Chunky Melon, which is a small, seedless melon, the Jubilee melon, which is a medium-sized heirloom watermelon, and the Orange Crisp, an orange-fleshed watermelon. Harper Farms also grows heirloom emerald velvet okra, spaghetti squash, red onions, potatoes, and sweet butternut squash.
