Texas man arrested for allegedly assaulting fiancee

- GRACE BROWN

A Texas man was arrested early Thursday after allegedly striking his fiancee for making a wrong turn while he was intoxicated.

James Paul Horton III, 45, who lists a Gladewater, Texas, address, was taken into custody shortly after

1:30 a.m. Thursday and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.

Horton was being held on zero bond and is set to appear in Garland County District Court on Aug.

21.

According to the affidavit, Hot

Springs Village Police officers responded to a call just before 1 a.m. to a disturbance on Mano Way and spoke to a woman who stated her fiance, later identified as Horton, had hit her.

She was reportedly unable to speak at first because she was “in hysterics.” Once she regained composure, she told the officers she and Horton had gone to a local bar, where Horton had “too much to drink.” Due to Horton’s state of intoxication, she had to drive them home.

She stated she was new to the Village and while on her way home she made a wrong turn, which reportedly angered Horton. At that point, Horton allegedly punched her on the right side of her face while she was driving.

She said she swung her right arm toward Horton to prevent him from hitting her again, but he grabbed it and twisted it behind her back. He continued to twist her arm until she looked at him, and then he allegedly punched her again on her left jawline.

The officers noted she had red markings on both sides of her face, as well as purple bruising to her right eye. They also noted Horton appeared intoxicated and was “not speaking clearly or making any sense.”
