Pro jazz bassist to address NAACP unit

NAACP, Unit 6013, will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Webb Community Center, 127 Pleasant St. The 75-year-old civil rights organizati­on will be addressed by Phyllis A. Beard. Beard is a profession­al jazz bassist, having toured Europe and played in the New York area. Beard at Hot Springs Yoga Center, 1107 W. Water workout and aerobics, and Aqua Arthritis classes are held at Quapaw Community Center, 500 Quapaw Ave. Water aerobics is at 9 a.m. Monday-Friday and water workout at 10 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Aqua Arthritis classes follow the guidelines of the Arthritis Foundation’s water exercise program and holds a master’s degree in Education and a bachelor’s degree in Music, Stage Performanc­e. She is a lifetime member of the NAACP, Unit 6013.

A Dogs Life Rescue adoptions are held from 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays, unless raining, at Transporta­tion Plaza and Orange Street. All dogs are spayed or neutered, and up to date on shots. Call Susan Williams, 617-7679, for informatio­n.

Convention of States Town Hall will meet at noon Saturday at Charlie’s Pizza Pub, 127 McNeely, Hot Springs Village. Lunch will be from 11-11:45 a.m.

Hot Springs Toastmaste­rs Club 7643 will meet at 8 a.m. Saturday in Room 203 at Champion Christian College, 600 Garland St. Use the parking lot for the college. Suggestion: use the door marked “Cafeteria,” then go upstairs. The club welcomes interested persons. Toastmaste­rs offers resources and a supportive atmosphere to help members develop or practice communicat­ion and leadership skills. Visitors may choose their level of participat­ion while learning.
