Carl G. Blees

Carl G. Blees, 93, of Hot Springs, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Hot Springs Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Albert Houpt officiatin­g.

Burial in Crestview Cemetery

Pallbearer­s are Paul Blees, David Blees, Adam Castle, Cody Castle, Mike Blees and Ed Parker.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary M. Deain

Mary M. Deain, age 87, passed away on Monday, August

7, 2017. Mary was born December 21, 1929, to the late Emma Kmoch Novak and John Novak.

Mary loved playing cards (Hand and Foot), making pies (her pumpkin pie was the best) and crocheting throws and prayer shawls. Blessed with a beautiful smile, Mary was happiest when near her friends and her family.

Mary’s memory will be cherished by her husband of

68 years, Dale Deain; daughter, Shirley (Earl) Kinard; son, Dick (Cindy) Deain; daughter, Kathy (Jim) Mays; brother, Stanley Novak; sister, Agnes Corbin; grandson, Jay (Amber) Kinard; grandson, Jake (Brooke) Mays; granddaugh­ter, Stephanie (Ernesto) Salas; grandson, Zack Mays; grandson, Matt (Crystal) Kinard; grandson, Andy (Abbey) Deain; grandson, Isaac Deain; grandson, Josh Deain and great-grandchild­ren, Christian, Kaity, Jackson, Mason, Noah and Mario.

Mary was preceded in death by precious poodles, Chrissy and Prissy.

A Funeral Service for Mary will take place at Barcelona Road Baptist Church, where Mary and Dale were long time members, on Saturday, August

12, at 10 a.m.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday, August 14, in Arkansas Veteran’s Cemetery in North Little Rock.

Serving as pallbearer­s are Jay Kinard, Jake Mays, Zack Mays, Matt Kinard, Christian Kinard and Marshall Pierson. Honorary pallbearer­s are Irey Dallas, Jolley Baugh, Joe Coker, Charles Compton, Bob Fine, and John Foust.

La Verna Stinnett

La Verna Stinnett, resident of the Hot Springs area, passed away peacefully on Saturday, the 5th of August, while visiting family and friends in the Sheldon, Iowa area.

Born in 1937, La Verna was born and raised in Hospers, Iowa. She graduated from Archer High School in 1955, and settled in Whittier, Calif. where she met, and eventually married, Donald Stinnett in 1956. In 1957, La Verna and Donald welcomed their first child, Donna, followed by Ronald (1959) and Elma (1961).

La Verna worked for Baker Oil Tools, and later took a job for Hughes Systems, where she retired and settled with her husband in Hot Springs, Ark. La Verna and Donald completed their lifelong dream of purchasing a lake home on Lake Hamilton in 2007.

La Verna had a love for sewing and crocheting that began as a child, where she would sew her dresses by hand. Later, she became a renowned quilter with many of her works displayed at local fairs. She taught this art to many, where she passed on her passion for quilting in various local groups.

La Verna was proceeded in death by her husband, Donald Stinnett and her daughter, Elma Stinnett. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Vione Nieuwenhui­s; her sister and brother-in-law, Noreen and Dick Elsbecker; her daughter, Donna, and her husband, Theodore Gray; her son, Ronald, and his wife, Barbara Stinnett; her grandson, Jason, and his wife, Nicole Gray; granddaugh­ter, Jennifer, and her husband, Shane Hughes; her seven great grandchild­ren: Kris, Savannah, Elijah, Hunter, Oliviah, Nathan and Connor and many nieces and nephews.

The Piney Grove Methodist Church has been entrusted with arrangemen­ts, and will be the site of a Remembranc­e Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 12.

Jeanne Sweet

Jeanne “Maw” Sweet, age 94, of Hot Springs, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017.

She was born on October

12, 1922, in Amity, the daughter of Arthur “Proc” Proctor and Essie Mae Garner Proctor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Sweet; one son, David H. Sweet; one daughter, Patricia Ann Sweet and her parents.

Jeanne was a member of Amity First Baptist Church. She worked for many years at Proctor’s Cleaners in Amity. Jeanne’s greatest love in life was her family, especially her grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. She enjoyed life and always had a green thumb for flowers.

She is survived by two sons, Buddy Sweet and Casey Sweet; two daughters-in-law, Mona Hamilton and Liz Sweet, all of Hot Springs; four grandchild­ren, Patricia Sweet, David and Stacey Sweet, Megan Sweet and Shawn and Ariel Sweet; eight great-grandchild­ren: Zach Felts, Jacob Sweet, Stacia Dickenson, Elijah Dickenson, Kaleb Dickenson, Marly Sweet, Christophe­r Sweet and Matti Sweet; one great-great granddaugh­ter, Abigail Sweet; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, in the Oaklawn United Methodist Church with Bro. Russ Breshears officiatin­g.

Visitation will be held from

6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

Patsy Sue Foster Tabor, age 80, of Hot Springs, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 9, 2017.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 14, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. at Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs.

Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2017, in Macedonia Cemetery near Pencil Bluff, with Connie Gunter officiatin­g.
