George D. Merriott

George D. Merriott, age 84, of Hot Springs, was welcomed home by his Lord while being surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 10, 2017.

He was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Jessievill­e, the son of Floyd E. Merriott and Clara Jewell Young Merriott. On July 24, 1954, he was married to Dorthy L. Lowry. He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Henry Merriott; his older brother, Melvin Merriott; and his sister, Dorothy Ragsdale.

A U.S. Army veteran, George served in Korea, having over 26 years, both active and retired duty, obtaining the position as a Master Sergeant; and was a member of the Park Place Baptist Church. He was employed with the Garland County Sheriff’s Department for over 15 years, and was an electricia­n with the original Atomic Bomb Plant in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

He was an avid sports fan, loving and enjoying all sports. In his younger years as a dad, he and Dorthy would take their son quail hunting, along with his brother, Melvin, and have so many fond memories of these trips.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorthy Merriott, of Hot Springs; his son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Jan Merriott, of Hot Springs; four grandchild­ren, Terry Ray Merriott, Kristi Merriott, Lisa Merriott and Amy Richardson, and her husband, Kevin, all of Hot Springs; six great-grandchild­ren; his sister-in-law, Joyce Faye Merriott, of Hot Springs; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs, with Brother Coy Sample officiatin­g.

Visitation will be 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honors Team.

Pallbearer­s will be J. D. Fladung, Kevin Richardson, Grayson Langston, Kelly Timbs, Tony Timbs and John D. Grant.

Honorary pallbearer­s will be his great-grandchild­ren, Brother Thurman Broughton, Brother Jim Freeman and the nurses and staff of Arkansas Hospice, 5th floor, CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in George’s name to Park Place Baptist Church Building Fund, 721 Park Avenue, Hot Springs, AR 71901.

Daniel Smithee

CADDO VALLEY — Daniel Smithee, 44, of Caddo Valley, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Marla Smithee, of Caddo Valley; three daughters, Ashleigh, Baleigh and Kaleigh Bradley, of Caddo Valley; his brother, Steve Smithee, of Mammoth Springs; five sisters, Donna Cates (Bobby), of Corning, Thresa Johnson (Jerry), of Mammoth Springs, Eva Malone (Anthony), of Corning, Darlene Burns (Rob), of Paragould, and Becky Manning (Bobby), of Paragould; one grandchild, Christian Daniel Yancey, of Caddo Valley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the park by the Caddo Valley dam.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Final arrangemen­ts are entrusted to The Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphi­a.

Jeanne Sweet

Jeanne “Maw” Sweet, age 94, of Hot Springs, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Oaklawn United Methodist Church with Brother Russ Breshears officiatin­g.

Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

James W. Quick

MALVERN — James W. Quick, age 78, of Malvern, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017.

He was a member of Taylor’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Joy (Eckert) Quick; daughter Cyndy Glover (Greg); sons, Todd Quick (Cheri) and Tony Quick; brother, Carroll Quick (Rosa); grandchild­ren, Lauren Rambin (John), Kimberly Glover, Blake Glover (Molly), Gunnar Quick and Max Quick; great-grandchild­ren, Melody, Riley and Isaac Rambin; sisters-in-law, Cathy Tanner (Marshall) and Jo Ondick (Karol).

Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Sunday at Regency.

Funeral Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Regency Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in Ouachita Cemetery.
