‘Adam Brown’ races set Aug. 26 at LH
The 32nd annual Adam Brown Road Mile is scheduled Saturday, Aug.
26 at Lake Hamilton High School.
For the eighth consecutive year, a series of road races is set on former U.S. Highway 70. The roadway and races honor the memory of a Lake Hamilton graduate and former U.S. Navy SEAL killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2010.
Same-day registration is 7 a.m.-8:30 a.m. at the east end of Adam Brown Road. The first race, for open males and females (ages 16 and up), starts at 8 a.m. Masters males and females follow at 8:20 a.m., boys in grades 10-12 at 8:40 a.m., girls in grades 10-12 at 9 a.m., boys in grades 7-9 at
9:20 a.m. and girls in grades 7-9 at 9:40 a.m. All races are one mile except for a half-mile event for boys and girls 12 and under, starting at 10 a.m.
The top five males and top five females in each division receive awards. Commemorative T-shirts will be on sale for $15 on race day.
Entry fees are $10. Checks may be made payable to Adam Brown Road Mile and mailed to coach Karl Koonce, 109 West Hill Lane, Hot Springs, AR 71913. For more information, contact Koonce at 501-282-3481.
Six course records were set last year with Lake Hamilton High runner Josie Carson clocking 5:31.65 in the open female division. Other records were set by Rob Webb (6:16, senior male), Noah Eskew (4:27.96, high school male), Garrett Webb (5:00.22, junior male), Ethan Smith (2:52.59, children’s male) and Hayleigh Wyrick (2:56.91, children’s female).
The road races, formerly known as the Owens Road Mile, began on what is now Aldridge Road east of Lake Hamilton School.
Broyles ceremony set at Walton Arena
A celebration of life for Frank Broyles will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Walton Arena on the University of Arkansas’ Fayetteville campus. The event is open to the public.

Broyles died Monday at age 92. He spent more than a half century serving the University of Arkansas as a football coach, athletics director and goodwill ambassador.
