Renowned saxophonist, flutist to return for 2017 Hot Springs JazzFest

-

Saxophonist and flutist Allen Won, of New York City, will return to Hot Springs to perform at the 26th Hot Springs JazzFest Aug. 31 through Sept. 4.

JazzFest is sponsored by the Hot Springs Jazz Society and presented in venues spread throughout Hot Springs National Park with entrance fees ranging from free to $50.

Those who enjoyed Won’s performance at the 2015 JazzFest will remember his generosity as a performer, whose love of life, laugh and music are infectious, a news release said. The Kansas City Star describes him as a “super sax player who drifts about the stage like an amiable pied piper.”

Festivalgoers will have three opportunities to watch Won’s performances: The Ohio Club, on Aug. 31; the Five Star Theatre in the “Classical & Jazz Blow Out,” on Sept. 1; and as a guest performer with two groups in the free outdoor concert “Jazz in the Streets,” on Sept. 2.

Additional artists from Arkansas and the nation are scheduled for concerts during the festival, including an intimate concert in the historic new Ohio Club with the Clyde Pound Trio; the “Classical & Jazz Blow Out” with a surprising combination of jazz by ATM (Anything That Moves) and classical music by Arkansas Brass quintet; and the traditional free outdoor concert “Jazz in the Streets” with several other jazz programs.
