Benefit football games start Monday

Fountain Lake football fans can get a look at new coach J.D. Plumlee’s teams in a benefit game Monday.

Meanwhile, the Hot Springs Trojans play at home before starting the regular season at Lake Hamilton.

The Cobras have junior-high and varsity games against Central Arkansas Christian starting at 5:30 p.m. on Allen Tillery Field at Beckham Memorial Stadium. Fountain Lake’s varsity team starts the regular season Sept. 1 against visiting Pottsville.

Hot Springs’ junior-high and varsity teams face Little Rock Christian at 7 p.m. Monday at Reese Memorial Stadium.

Other Arkansas Activities Associatio­n-approved benefit games Monday send Lake Hamilton to Cabot and Lakeside to Sheridan for 6 p.m. starts. Lakeside’s Aug.

28 game against Joe T. Robinson at Little Rock’s War Memorial Stadium is the first of the regular season involving a Garland County team.

Jessievill­e is host to a jamboree Tuesday at Phillips Field with Cutter Morning Star, Magnet Cove, Marshall, Mount Ida, Mountain Pine and Perryville also participat­ing and action starting at 5:30 p.m. Jessievill­e is host to the same schools for a junior-high jamboree at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Other junior-high benefit games Thursday include Lake Hamilton at Pulaski Academy, 5:15 p.m., and Malvern (with Bryant) at Sheridan,

6 p.m.

In addition, Arkadelphi­a and Greenbrier play at Sylvan Hills (5:30 p.m. Monday), Centerpoin­t goes to Foreman (5:30 p.m. Tuesday), Bismarck visits Murfreesbo­ro (5:30 p.m. Tuesday) and Malvern is home against White Hall (6:30 p.m. Tuesday).

Mountain Pine is host to season openers for Jessievill­e Sept. 1 and Cutter Morning Star, after a bye week, Sept. 8.

Mena golfers triumph over conference foes

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Mena edged host Fountain Lake by seven strokes in a four-team conference golf match here Thursday at the Magellan course.

Mena had a low nine-hole score of 118, senior Montana Carden leading Fountain Lake with a 2-over 38. Mena’s Austin Johnston took medalist honors with a 36.

Bauxite’s Sophie Canale led the girls’ division with a 43. Malvern also participat­ed.

Fountain Lake’s next match is Monday at Benton’s Longhills course.
