Trump and the ‘alt-right’

-

Dear editor:

The president is a racist.

Last weekend, the “alt-right” descended on Charlottesville, Va. America watched in horror while hundreds of torch-bearing white supremacists paraded through the University of Virginia campus terrorizing Charlottesville citizens, chanting racist insults and brandishing Nazi paraphernalia and revolting Nazi symbols.

The far-right demonstrators holding torches, stark reminders of KKK lynchings, attacked a far smaller group of counter-protesters who had linked arms around a statue of Thomas Jefferson protesting bigotry and racism. The “Unite the Right” rally marched in a long column over to the campus, chanting anti-Semitic slogans like “You will not replace us” and “Blood and soil.” When the marchers reached and surrounded the protesters who were protesting against racism and bigotry, there was a verbal confrontation before they were brutally attacked with pepper spray and lighter fluid. They did not start the fight. What has happened to America?

President Trump’s response to the terrorists was complete silence. When his response finally came, he failed to condemn the racists. Instead of criticism for the hatred and bigotry, he criticized those who opposed the hatred of the alt-right neo-Nazi’s. Why?

Trump’s most important policy advisers are Stephen Miller, Steve Bannon and Sebastian Gorka. These three are not just members, but promoters of the radical altright and they are Trump’s personal choice and closest advisers. Trump has tasked them to determine White House policy. This is not fake news, its accepted fact and the ultimate truth.

By Trump’s personal words, behaviors and actions, it’s obvious that Donald Trump admires the alt-right and actually stated that the some of the neo-Nazi agitators were good people. The reality is that the president has authorized Steve Miller, Steve Bannon and Sebastian Gorka and the alt-right to take over the executive branch of our government. Americans should demand that Stephen Miller, Steve Bannon and Sebastian Gorka be fired immediately.

On Tuesday, following the bloodstained weekend in Charlottesville, the “nation” and the “world” watched in disbelief as the executive branch of the United States of America suffered a horrible meltdown as we witnessed a ranting president refuse to condemn terrorism by radical extremist racists that brought death to three innocent citizens and gravely injured dozens more.

Everyone of all faiths — Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, atheists and especially those of you who call yourselves evangelical Christians professing to be true followers of Jesus Christ — if you honestly love America, it’s now a time to defend America from incompetence, fraud, racists and recklessness, even if it’s from a president.

There is only one side to be on, the side that Jesus took. White supremacy and racism is anti-Christ. Hatred has no place in the life of a Christian. Trump does not deserve the support of Christians because his values are profoundly opposed to commitments that Jesus insisted in word and deed, principles for which he laid down his life.
