Keith Smith Co., the nation’s largest independent producer and provider of broiler hatching eggs to the poultry industry, has promoted Syd Tatum to live production manager. The position primarily oversees pullet development and hatching egg production, as well as contract grower operations.

“Syd has been highly influential in maximizing the value and performance of our live production department and its grower base,” said KSC President and CEO Jim Smith in the press release. “His three decades of experience in poultry production make him a natural fit to lead our animal husbandry operations. He’s an industry veteran and we could not be more excited for the value he will bring to our customers.”

Tatum joined Keith Smith Co. earlier this year as pullet field operations manager. A Louisiana native, Tatum holds a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness and is recognized in the industry for his ability to build and sustain successful broiler hatching egg operations from the ground up.

“I’m honored to lead KSC’s broiler breeder operations,” said Tatum. “I look forward to working with our talented production team to enhance the long-term success of our local growers and provide the best possible product to our customers.”

Tatum’s promotion continues recent efforts of Keith Smith Co. to develop an innovative management structure that works to proactively serve growers, increase efficiency and produce a better-quality product.

In 2016, KSC sold 336 million eggs to customers located in nine countries across the globe. The company has 110 employees and more than 75 growers.
