Little Rock librarian feature for Wednesday Night Poetry

-

Little Rock librarian Jasmine Jobe will be this week’s feature for Wednesday Night Poetry at Kollective Coffee+Tea, 110 Central Ave.

The regular open mic session for all poets begins at 6:30 p.m. and Jobe will perform at 7 p.m., followed by another open mic session. Admission is free and open to all poets.

Originally from Kansas City, Jobe has lived in Arkansas for more than a decade and works for the Central Arkansas Library System at the downtown Little Rock campus. She is also an editorial assistant for the Encyclopedia of Arkansas.

According to a news release, Jobe received her B.A. in Creative Writing and Japanese Studies from Knox College, a nationally ranked liberal arts school in Galesburg, Ill. She was recently awarded her Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

“I don’t identify myself as a poet but as a writer,” she said. “I write prose. Currently I’m working on an adult content memoire.”

Jobe started writing short stories in the second grade. “Back then I was making up stories about my stuffed animals. It feels like I’ve been writing stories all my life.”

When asked what inspires her to write these days, Jobe said, “Mostly it’s my personal experiences. I use writing as a means to help me sort out my thoughts. I find it empowering to create something out of nothing. It feels like a worthwhile pursuit.”

Wednesday night Jobe will present excerpts from her memoir and various short stories.

The guest host for this week’s WNP will be Kai Coggin, who is the director for the weekly adult poetry workshop Words & Wine at Emergent Arts.
