Traffic stops leads to felony drug arrest
A local man was arrested Monday afternoon after a deputy allegedly located 85 grams of meth and $1,947 in his possession during a traffic stop.
Dennie Joe Morris, 38, was arrested at around 12:10 p.m. Monday for felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of drug paraphernalia and a warrant for failure to appear in juvenile court.
He remains in custody in lieu of a zero bond due to the warrant for his arrest, and is set to appear in Garland County Juvenile Court on Sept. 8, and Garland County District Court on Sept. 11.
According to the affidavit, Deputy Justin
Parker observed a pewter Chevrolet Silverado exit the EZ Mart parking lot, 1620 Albert Pike
Road, and turn east on Albert Pike. The vehicle accelerated quickly and reportedly merged into the outside lane without signaling before stopping at a traffic light.
As the light turned green, the truck reportedly accelerated quickly and began to pass traffic. Parker paced the vehicle at 52 mph in a 40 mph zone. He initiated a traffic stop at Spa Auto Sales,
2443 Albert Pike Road.
The driver failed to provide identification, but verbally identified himself as Dennie Morris. He was placed in custody after Parker was informed of a juvenile failure to appear warrant.
As Parker patted down Morris, he reportedly located a large sum of folded $20 and
$100 bills inside Morris’ front right pocket. As he was being placed into the patrol unit, he reportedly requested his phone and money located inside a pair of jeans in his truck.
Parker went to the truck, attempting to retrieve the requested items when he located another large sum of money folded in the pocket of his jeans. Due to the large sums of money found, an inventory search on the vehicle was conducted.
Inside the vehicle, Parker reportedly located a black drawstring bag containing a set of digital scales, seven bundles of $1 bills totaling $341, a clear bag containing approximately 85 grams of crystal meth, a small SIM card and an AutoZone reward card. A total of $1,947 in cash was found in Morris’ possession.
