Murder suspect surrenders
A local man wanted on a capital murder warrant for the Aug. 7 fatal shooting at the Valero gas station, 1201 Central Ave., surrendered to authorities through his attorney Wednesday, according to Hot Springs police and the Garland County sheriff.
Hot Springs police on Aug. 11 identified Lindaniel West, 39, who lists a Vanadium Circle address, as a suspect in the Aug. 7 fatal shooting of Derek A. Duvall, 29, at the Valero located at the intersection of Grand and Central avenues.
Police, in a news release issued following his surrender on Wednesday, said West was charged with capital murder, a felony punishable by up to life in prison or the death penalty, and was being held on a zero bond at the Garland County Detention Center.
Sheriff Mike McCormick said attorney Brian Johnson contacted the Garland County Sheriff’s Department at around 1 p.m. Wednesday in reference to his client, West, “turning himself in” for the fatal shooting at the Valero.
West was taken into custody by Investigator Brandon Huckaba and Lt. Joel Ware at Ethridge Law Firm, 524 Ouachita Ave., McCormick said.
Duvall was shot once in the chest near the gas pumps at the Valero and reportedly ran toward the rear of the parking lot, collapsing near two cars parked against the brick wall on the lot’s southern perimeter.
Officers who responded to the shooting administered CPR until LifeNet personnel arrived and continued the CPR efforts, but Duvall could not be resuscitated and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
