Wreck leads to small diesel spill
A collision between a car and a log truck Wednesday morning prompted a response from the Garland County Department of Emergency Management due to a diesel leak.
Arkansas State Police Cpl. James Avant said that Mark Miller, 47, of Hot Springs Village, was eastbound in a Chevrolet Cavalier RS on Strawberry Road at around 11:40 a.m. when he attempted to cross the Highway 7 intersection, and was struck in the passenger side by a Peterbilt log truck.
The log truck, which was driven by James Abbott, 56, of Story, traveled north for several yards and then pulled over onto the highway’s southbound shoulder following the wreck. The truck’s diesel tank, located on its passenger side, was punctured.
Garland County sheriff’s Sgt. Bill House said that the truck began to leak diesel onto the highway after impact.
The Jessieville Volunteer Fire Department, LifeNet and Perdue’s Towing also responded to the scene. The response blocked off the southbound lane of Highway 7 from its intersection with Strawberry Road all the way up to where the truck pulled over.
The sheriff’s department and DEM worked to maintain the area around the log truck and its leak as the fire department directed southbound traffic into the northbound lane. Traffic was still being redirected an hour and a half after the wreck.
Avant said there were no injuries, and that Miller was cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
