Fresh produce returns to farmers market

-

Fresh, homegrown produce and homemade items will be available at the Hot Springs Farmers & Artisans Market, 121 Orange St., from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Farmers of the Week Jean and Adolph Hughes are a familiar sight at the farmers market. As founders of the market, they have been there since the beginning. “We had a lot of blackberries and decided to sell them,” Jean said of a time long before the award-winning pavilion was constructed, a news release said.

The Hughes family farm is located in New Roche. They are known for their jams and jellies, including blackberry, elderberry, fig, peach, pepper jelly, and others. Their selection of produce ranges from watermelon, pumpkins, heirloom pears, new potatoes, butternut squash, and garlic. They also have a number of peppers, such as sweet banana, jalapeño, Anaheim, cayenne, and sweet biscayne.

Vendor of the Week Wendy Fargo of Crooked House Herbs learned a great deal at the School of Natural Healing. She has perfected a huge selection of natural salves, lotions, tinctures, and beauty skin care. She became interested in holistic remedies after successfully beating cancer with natural herbal remedies. Her philosophy of healing the body by cleaning and detoxing and using natural herbal remedies has been met with great success.

Fargo also has a selection of herbal teas and tinctures she claims help a great deal. Her plantain lotion is a cure-all for many skin irritations. Some of her favorite suggested treatments include vital immune tonic, active immune tonic, and elderberry tea. Fargo grows all of her own herbs at her 20-acre ranch in the Ouachita mountains. Her vital immune syrup has ingredients such as rushi mushroom, shiitake mushroom, astragalus, alfalfa, dandelion, and elderberry syrup. Some of her original formulas take months to create. Her beauty products, such as 7 Years Young, are very effective in preserving a youthful glow. She also has a natural bug repellent and pet products.
