Man arrested after alleged fight with sheriff’s deputies
A Hot Springs man was arrested on multiple misdemeanor charges Thursday after residents reportedly saw him with a gun in their neighborhood and he allegedly fought with Garland County sheriff’s deputies.
Landon Ray Duddles, 34, who lists a Rock House Trail address, was taken into custody around 1 p.m. and charged with resisting arrest, fleeing and obstructing government operations, each punish- able by up to one year in jail.
Duddles, who also had a warrant out of Rockport for failure to appear, remained in custody
Friday on bonds totaling $5,405 and is set to appear Sept. 11 in Garland County District Court.
According to the affidavit, shortly before 12:30 p.m., Deputies Jon Lane and Roy Elliott and Cpl. Jeremy Simpson were dispatched to the 300 block of Lakeland Drive regarding a suspicious white man with no shirt and a handgun tucked in his waistband who was allegedly making threats.
Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with a man fitting the description who gave them a name several times, but no record of the name could be found. The deputies asked some other residents who stated the man’s name was Landon and Elliott noticed the man had “Landon” tattooed across his back.
He was soon identified as Duddles and after discovering the warrant for his arrest, Lane told him to put his hands on the vehicle because he was under arrest.
At that point, Duddles allegedly turned to run and tried to push
Elliott out of the way. Elliott had a hold on him and Duddles began to pull the deputy down the hill toward Lake Hamilton.
The deputies warned Duddles several times if he continued to resist they would use a Taser on him, but he reportedly began to fight with Elliott and Simpson as Lane yelled “Taser” several times. At that point, Simpson deployed his Taser but it had no effect on Duddles.
Duddles then grabbed Elliott and took him to the ground so Lane deployed his Taser which finally made Duddles comply with instructions. When Elliott tried to cuff him he started to become combative again, Lane said, and they used the Taser again.
After that Duddles became compliant and was taken into custody without further incident.
