Local woman appointed to national position
The National Society United States Daughters of 1812 announced the appointment of Hot Springs Village resident Sheila Beatty-Krout to the newly created position of USD 1812 Veterans Affairs Voluntary Services chairman national.
She will be responsible for the implementation and oversight of state USD 1812 VAVS representatives and deputies for each VA medical facility system. Their main duties include, but are not limited to, recruitment of volunteers and donations.
The VAVS program, under the

Through this program, community volunteers efforts and resources are combined to serve America’s veterans by augmenting VA staff in such settings as hospital wards, nursing homes, ambulatory care, community-based volunteer programs, end of life care programs, veterans outreach centers, national cemeteries, and Veteran Benefit Administration regional offices.
Membership is available to women age 18 and over who can offer satisfactory proof that they are lineal descendants of an ancestor who, during the period of 1784-1815 inclusive, rendered civil, military or naval service to this country. For membership information, call Jeanette Frahm, 922-9220.
