Literacy Council to hold Spanish classes Item of interest
The Literacy Council of Garland County, a nonprofit organization founded to teach adults in Garland and surrounding counties to read, write and speak English, free of charge, is offering Spanish 101, an $89 course for those interested in learning a foreign language.
LCGC Executive Direct Laura Lee Williard said in the press release, “Within three days, we knew the response to our Spanish 101 crash course we offered with Garland County Library to mark National Literacy Week was going to be great. We began testing our curriculum this past spring and will be putting what we learned into practice at the library. LCGC’s onsite Spanish classes provided an opportunity to bring the benefits of our this new curriculum to an even wider audience.”
Classes meet for six consecutive Tuesdays, beginning Oct. 12 and running through Nov. 21. The next classes will start Jan. 9, April 6, May 1, June 26, Aug. 21 and Oct. 16. LCGC will offer six sessions annually in 2018, adding more advanced Spanish
201 classes as the program progresses. As a nonprofit agency, LCGC’s core services are always free. Fee-based Dyslexia Rx tutoring and Spanish classes help bring in funds needed to keep the doors open for adult English students.
