Women’s Bible study begins at Barcelona Road Baptist

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Women of the community are welcome to join the Bible study being hosted by Barcelona Road Baptist Church, 390 Barcelona Road, Hot Springs Village, this fall. Ruth Manweiler will teach from the scriptures using texts from “Bad Girls of the Bible: Lessons We Can Learn from Them,” a book by Liz Curtis Higgs.

The study will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 5 through Nov. 14. The sessions will resume with another book in January 2018.

Beginning with Eve in the garden of Eden, “Bad Girls of the Bible” covers the lives and contributions of 10 women, some of them unnamed, whose claims to fame were based on bad decisions they made. Some of those decisions cost them their lives, relationships and everything they considered precious at the time. Women in the Bible study will examine how some of the women were able to turn their lives around, while others were not.

Each lesson is a stand-alone learning experience, so women may join at any time and do not have to attend every session. Books with built-in study guides are available online or can be purchased from Kristin Whitaker for $10.

For more information, call Whitaker, 922-0363.

Faith Lutheran Church hosts Mission Conference

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Faith Lutheran Church, Hot Springs Village, will sponsor a “Kick the Tires” Mission Conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 30. The Rev. Greg Finke, founder of Dwelling 1:14 and author of “Joining Jesus on His Mission,” will be the featured speaker. While his book is the subject of Bible studies, he is a nondenominational presenter for conferences and retreats, regularly speaks to seminary and university students, and has worked with pastors and leaders across the U.S. and Canada.

Finke will teach participants how to be more intentional about outreach by learning how to be a missionary in their neighborhoods, work places and schools. His clear, simple and often humorous insights help ordinary Jesus-followers to literally “kick the tires” on what it could mean for them to join Jesus on His mission in their everyday lives. This method is low risk and does not ask that one become a “Jesus salesperson.” Rather, Finke teaches how to recognize when God puts someone in your path, and to be caring, patiently waiting until that person is ready to hear God’s Word.

He will lead the Oct. 1 Bible study and conduct the sermon at the 10 a.m. worship service at Faith Lutheran.

The $10 per person conference fee includes a study booklet, refreshment breaks and lunch. Registration forms may be found at http://www.faithhsv.com. Mail the completed form and check, payable to Faith Lutheran Church, to: Faith Lutheran Church-KTT, 1196 DeSoto Blvd., Hot Springs Village, AR 71909 or call 608-217-7236 or 608-444-2932; or stop in at the church office from 9 a.m. to noon Monday-Thursday.
